Independent U.S. Record Label to record "Strapfkernerators Requiem" in Trondheim, Norway

orchestras and choirs meet industrial alt-rock in Trondheim

cleverly-engineered composition in tribute to victims of human rights abuse

NEW YORK -- Trip Records today announced that it will be recording and releasing a performance of the magnificently crafted and haunting musical-construction "Strapfkernerators Requiem." This tribute to victims of human rights abuses was written by Norwegian composers/performers Aksel Hagen Tjora and Oivind Klungseth Zahlsen and is a modern industrial rendering of the traditional requiem mass for the dead. Recording will take place at various locations in Trondheim, Norway from 1 May to 7 May, 1996, primarily in the medieval-era Byneset Church. Here performances by orchestras, choirs and vocal soloists will be layered over industrial rhythms and sound constructions. Trip Records' staff producer Tommy Davis will preside over the project, while veteran studio technician Richard Oliver will engineer the recordings.

The one-hour-long work will be released later this year on Trip Records in the United States, and licensed by Trip for release throughout the rest of the world.

This recording will mark the first full-scale rendering of the work since the debut performance of it in October 1994 at the International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISFIT).

Composers Zahlsen and Tjora of Trondheim frequently work under the name "Strapfkernerator" in both symphonic and rock idioms, with works ranging from this large Requiem project using over 30 musicians to small "happenings" involving three performers. Common for the projects they undertake is the courage to cross borders, both musically and socially.

Trip Records, purveyor of hard-hitting and exquisite compositions and performers, previously released excerpts of "Strapfkernerators Requiem" on the quarterly audiozine Sibilance, produced by Trip Records and zine publisher Baby Rhino Press.
