Subject: various artists Sibilance Issue #2
What "Sibilance" editor Boffo Santana-Jones is trying to accomplish seems clear: a CD "magazine" offering "music, soundscape, poetry, prose, rantings, babble and life" for and about queeers.
In the end, the second installment is clearly directed toward gay men who are very fond of the 1980s. The music by davidmahr, Ampersand and Santana-Jones himself is so completely derivative of synth-popsters like Depeche Mode and Erasure that most of "Sibilance" sounds like out-takes from "Speak and Spell."
There are, however, some interesting moments on the disc: Denise's three-part discussion of "tits" seems so banal that it must be important and Woof's acoustic "Just a Bear" is a hilarious tribute to men who have no problems with excess body size and/or hair.
The CD comes nicely packaged (with a condom in tow). and for just $5, it's certainly worth a listen... for the sheer wonder of its incongruity if nothing else.
