Trip Records was created to fill a void in the domain of commercially released recorded sounds: the belief that art should be public, and that censorship of art is wrong. It is also a fundamental working principle of Trip Records that trends and fads of pop culture need not constrain artists or record labels from putting forth works which are important to the participating artists. It is, in fact, artists who challange themselves to get in touch with their musical and lyrical emotions who ultimately gain a fiercly loyal following.
Trip will be releasing albums of material by its artists under a unique artist-label relationship, which challanges the music industry's status quo by basing this relationship primarily on artistic fidelity, and decreasing emphasis on promotional hype and artist "packaging." Artists who nurture their muse, so to speak, are considered by Trip to be the most valuable and significant contrinutors to our records. One forum Trip will be using to embrace these principles is by periodically releasing compilation albums by various artists, who may or may not be exclusively tied to the label. The first compilation LP is entitled "This Way Out," a collection of works by queer and queer-friendly artists, is was released late last year. Trip Records relys on the commitment of its artists to this creed, as does the label recropicate this sprit to its artists. Trip will never tell an artist what material is acceptable or not - the artist is free to create anything that is inspired.
